ECU+ but i have 850cc's...

Postby my98gsx » Mon Mar 03, 2008 8:57 pm

I am in need for somthing better than my current setup on my 98 gsx. Since I am new to the site this is what i have;
98 Gsx, block bored .040, eagle 100mm crank, eagle rods, weisco pistons, crowler valves, webb 272 cams, head ported and polished, crowler valve springs, 57trim turbo, GM mass trans, 3'' exhaust, coil-on-plug igniton, 850cc injectors ( and all supporting mods ex: pump and reg... )

Currently i am "tuning" with a MAF, and an AFCII. - last summer I had the car tuned at a really bad shop we set the maft to a base setting and fine tuned it with the afc. I only put down 372whp... ( not bad but still not good. ) I live in New York and due to emission laws we CANNOT remove the stock Ecu. ( making DSMlink no good for anyone with a 96+ DSM ) I found ECU+ and thought it was the answer to my problems but looking into it, it might not be worth it for me to buy one... My goals for this car is for it to break into the 11's, and one day i would like to put a GT35R in...

Could the ECU+ be used with the MAFT and AFC? - would these working together be a decent setup for tuning my 850s?

Giant injectors are somewhat of a hassle, especially with big cams. With that setup, it's always gonna be tough to get a good idle, but on-throttle should do well. The ECU+, by itself, will do what your MAFT and AFC does, and a bunch more.

Everyone hs told me that at idle was going to be a problem with having 850's in my car. With the afc, fuel pressure regulator, and the throttle body adjustment skrew i was abble to get a real nice idle. - ECU+ looks like a great pruduct, the 2step launch control is a deff plus - has anyone ever used the product in higher sized injectors? - my last question is do i have to completly remove my MAFT and AFC? or could i just "zero" them out?

With all honesty you don't need those devices where ECU + comes in to do that. You don't even need the MAF translator either, ECU+ can control that with in the unit you buy.

Now far as the bigger Injectors, that's tough If you could get a 95 Eprom ecu and get it chipped for bigger than you shouldn't have a problem after that.

ok... the chiped ecu will NOT work in New York State. For those who do not live in NY here is how we get our 96+ cars inspected... They do a visual inspection ( so if you know someone they will visually "see" a cat even though you dont have one ) and you pass that, then your car is pluged in via the OBDII port and Albany then scanns the car while it runs. ANY check engine light and it FAILS. Besides that - if i have a chiped ECU when i plug it into the computor it will come up with 95 Eclipse with a wrong vin, and not MY 98 eclipse with the correct vin. The whole reason why i wanted to buy this product was so i would not have to remove my stock ecu.
